I can’t believe it’s the start of another week – I swear I was just getting ready to enjoy another weekend! Steve and I made our way back up to my family home in Cleveland to celebrate Kate’s birthday – all while listening to podcasts on the drive home (I think I’ve got him intrigued on the health/nutrition ones I listen to). It was great to be home, since we haven’t gotten a chance to go back since Christmas it was the perfect mini-reunion – although it flew by before we knew it.
Saturday, we awoke to more than just a little bit of snow on the ground, which continued to fall well into Sunday.
Since the roads halted some of our plans, we spent the early afternoon at the college gym with my dad, trying to log some miles on the treadmill. Now, although I can’t say the treadmill is my favorite piece of machinery, I was thankful that I was inside and surrounded my some different scenery. I love running at the college gym that my mom taught at. It has a way of bringing back so many memories of working out with her over the years, as well as making me feel extremely motivated to achieve in her honor. As I was running, I could picture her smiling face and energetic personality going around and training or talking to members – makes me smile to remember something so vividly.
It also has a way of bringing some tears. Her scholarship plague hangs on the wall as you enter the gym and “emotional me” just couldn’t help bursting into tears, not as much in a sad way, but because I am so proud of her life and that I can call her my mom.
We also got a chance to stop by her bench on the way out…
Mostly this weekend though, was about celebration. Steve and I got back from the gym and started to prepare a healthy dinner for the family and the best part – everyone ate it with no complaints!!! Usually there is something that someone doesn’t like in the mix and it doesn’t get eaten – not this time =).
After dinner, we all headed…in 3 separate cars…to the Wine Bar (talk about economical). Steve and I were meeting with our engagement photographers and then staying for some drinks with my family. After going over all of the details of the pictures for the engagement session and potential rehearsal dinner, wedding preparation, ceremony, and reception – not only could I feel the excitement in my bones, but the panic or maybe the better word is nerves for everything that we still have to accomplish. If it were up to me, I’d get it all done asap so I don’t have to worry any further.
At least the excitement and nerves was coupled with wine and good company.
We slept in on Sunday and enjoyed breakfast with my dad before heading home.
Luckily, I got to hang out with my little man in the car, while he found the perfect view seat…on my shoulder.
“To the future, family, and friends and the love that holds it all together.”
